HAPPY FALL Y'ALL!

Here are my two little pride and joys... Hailey and Kayla,
my grandbabies on a recent visit to Kimmswick a quaint historic
river town just a short drive from St Louis, Missouri, my home town.
We went there on a Monday and most of the shops are closed as
was this one. But we were really looking for a decked out spot for
taking some Fall family pictures and this turned out to be the perfect
place! I will share more about Kimmswick in future posts as I think
that it is just a fun place to wander around. By the way - Have you ever
heard of the Blue Owl Restaurant? It is in Kimmswick and has been
featured on some Food Network programs. Great food, loads of
atmosphere and desserts to die for. Yum!

Greetings and welcome to the first post on my new The Simply Retro Vintage Life blog! My name is Georgia and I am anxiously looking forward to sharing my world with you - at least my little corner of it. The trunk above - it inspired an Aha moment for me last fall when I dragged it home, having found it cast out in my neighbors trash. It was a curb shopping bonanza of possibilities in my mind's eye. And heavy as lead. As for the bottom. It was a little too rusted (even for me) to have much resale potential. BUT I WANTED IT! And so my poor dear husband helped me hoist that heavy puppy into our van and we drove it down a few houses, where we parked it in our junk crammed garage. It stayed there for a period of time during which I had some discussions with my hubby about that trunks ever lovin' potential and my penchant for bringing home "boat anchors".
Looking at that dreamy, rusty red chippy paint trunk one day I had an Aha moment. A moment of clarity. A reality check, really. I realized that my life and more importantly the lives of both my  husband and mother was forever changing. Primarily due to their health issues. My gypsy spirited, free wheeling world was going to need a make-over. I have done it to gazillion objects... reinvented and re-purposed them. But how to do that to myself?  How does someone go about making huge life changes (down-sizing, etc.) and still find joy and happiness?  Well in the last year I have found out. IT IS DOABLE! You rethink, you readjust, you make concessions. You turn over what you will to the man upstairs. And finally, you put on your (please don't blush and do forgive me...) big girl panties!
Well, I  continue to do the leg work and things are finally beginning to level out. Another fall is here and I am still living the Simply Retro Vintage life. Things have changed some but it is all still good! I am trying out new things like this blog and feel as though I have a lot to share about the wonderful world of antiques, collectibles, buying, selling, treasure hunting, crafting, DIY projects and simply prettying up the world around us. So why not join me as I explore the infinite possibilities.
